CENTRE FOR EDUCATIONAL STUDIES The objective of the Centre for Educational Studies is to encourage teacher training renovation and application of pedagogical research. In 1998, priority was given to projects by lecturers, doctoral students, and students at teacher training universities that were related to teacher training renewal, research into education development, and projects approximating higher schools with the secondary school education system Support was given to the International Civic Development Study CIVIC, a national conference of educology doctoral students and publication of their works on the Internet. In 1998, the Centre for Educational Studies organized university credit courses for postgraduate and doctoral students: University Didactics, Conflict Management.   T. McLaughlin, a lecturer at Cambridge University, gave a course of lectures for educology doctoral students Contemporary Philosophy of Education. On the basis of this course, the book Contemporary Philosophy of Education: Democracy, Values, Diversity was published. The material of a credit course Education Policy and Educational Reforms, delivered by R. Želvys, Head of the Educology Department at Vilnius University, to students of various universities was used as a basis for publishing Notebook No. 4 Educational Reforms in Education Studies. The work resulting from the competition Renovation of Courses in Subject Teaching Methods were published: M. Teresevičienė Andragogic Didactics, L. Z. Ruseckienė Literature Education, E. Remecas Family History at School. The centre organized summer schools for students and lecturers: Development of Critical Thinking, Instruction on Human and Child Rights, Debates as a Method of Active Development. A School of Educologist, arranged by the club of doctoral students operating at the Centre for Educational Studies, is intended for teaching young lecturers and doctoral students  effective higher school teaching methods and writing scientific reports. The Rector’s Office and deans of Vilnius Pedagogical University participated in the winter sessions Management of Organizational Change and Business communication. The collaboration of educologists was encouraged. A project, Education in Development, financed jointly with Goteborg University (Sweden) was carried out together with Goteborg University, Vilnius Pedagogical University, and Vilnius University. The project covered a partnership educology doctorship analysis of universities, and doctoral students’ study trips. Contemporary educological literature has been provided for readers at the library of the Centre for Educational Studies.
